AFP.one was a personal tech blog built from scratch with the primary goal of sharpening real-world SEO, analytics, and generative AI skills. I designed the infrastructure as a deliberate 3-server architecture to keep performance predictable and easier to control: one server for S3-compatible media storage with a custom CDN layer, one server for the Ghost CMS web server running on LiteSpeed, and one dedicated database server. To avoid exposing the database publicly, I secured the service connection through cloudflared as a private tunnel between internal services.

I chose Ghost because its writing experience was cleaner, faster, and less bloated than WordPress for my publishing needs. That simplicity came with SEO limitations, so I treated the project as a controlled experiment in pushing Ghost further: customizing theme templates, routing, permalink structure, semantic HTML, and custom structured data/schema markup such as breadcrumbs to make the site friendlier for both crawlers and readers.

  • Ran a personal tech blog focused on technology topics to practice on-page, off-page, and technical SEO, along with analytics and AI-assisted content creation.
  • Performed ongoing keyword research, SEO audits, and metric evaluation while experimenting with generative AI to produce engaging, informative content and analyzing content for quality and relevance.
  • Replaced Ghost's default Nginx with a custom LiteSpeed server configuration, optimizing caching rules and response performance.
  • Engineered custom routing and permalink structures to achieve SEO-friendly URLs, working around Ghost's limited native routing support.
  • Customized a premium theme, improvising the codebase for better SEO performance and enhancing the UI/UX to improve readability and engagement.
  • Designed the information architecture (site architecture) to ensure logical content categorization and optimal crawlability.
  • Implemented correct semantic HTML and custom structured data/schema markup, including breadcrumb schema that Ghost did not support natively, to support rich snippets and improve crawl clarity.

The blog earned two awards in 2023, validating the SEO and content strategy approach applied throughout the project.
